Our work spans more than 30 years, and in that time we’re incredibly proud of some of the achievements we’ve made that have impacted the Parkinson’s community across Europe.

Below is a selection of some of our biggest successes to date, as well as more detailed Highlights Reports from recent years:

Five key achievements of Parkinson’s Europe

  • 1997: Founded World Parkinson’s Day with the World Health Organisation, which continues to be celebrated around the world every year on 11th April
  • 2003: Helped to launch the Global Declaration for Parkinson’s, which was signed and supported throughout the six WHO global regions, and had the support of Mohammed Ali and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, among many others
  • 2010-2013: Our Move for Change data collection project is the largest online European patient survey on standards of care in Parkinson’s to date, featuring responses from 35 European countries, and identifying areas of care falling short of the standards set by current clinical guidelines
  • 2016: Launched our Parkinson’s Composite Scale, which is still used by neurologists and other healthcare professionals to measure the severity of Parkinson’s symptoms.
  • 2022: Released our Parkinson’s Manifesto for Europe, which we developed with the Parkinson’s community to commemorate our 30th anniversary, setting out 30 key wishes to shape the Parkinson’s agenda in Europe in the coming years
