The Caregiver’s Summit aims to equip Parkinson’s carers with the tools and confidence to take charge and recharge

As any carer knows, there are two distinct but complementary aspects to caregiving – caring for the person with Parkinson’s and caring for yourself. On 19 September 2016, the National Parkinson Foundation will be hosting a Caregiver’s Summit  to address this dual role, focusing on self-care strategies.

The Summit will be held Portland, Oregon, US, the day before the World Parkinson Congress, and will bring together carers from all over the world to share experiences and strategies to help live the best life possible, alongside someone with Parkinson’s disease.

The Summit is aimed at carers to provide a space for open, honest discussion. A respite room will be available, free of charge, for people with Parkinson’s who have also travelled to Portland.

Agenda highlights include ‘Maintaining Dignity and Identity in Caregiving’, a panel discussion on ‘Embracing the Challenge’ and breakout sessions on care transitions and dealing with non-motor symptoms. View the full agenda here.

The registration fee is US$30 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. ‘Scholarship’ grants are also available to offset the cost of attendance and all Caregiver Summit registrants can apply. The application deadline for the ‘scholarship’ is 11 July 2016.

If you can’t make it to Portland, don’t worry! General sessions of the Caregiver Summit will be streamed live as a webcast – all will have the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters.
